How to Use a Rotating Makeup Brush: Step by Step

Short answer: Dot foundation on your face, switch the brush on, and glide the foundation head in slow, light sweeps from the centre of your face outwards. Let the spinning head do the blending; do not press. Then swap to the powder head for the T-zone and the blush head for your cheeks. A full base takes about 2 minutes.

What do you need?

  • Your rotating brush with foundation, powder and blush heads
  • A fresh battery (the Flaminglo brush uses one AAA battery, included in the kit)
  • Foundation, powder and blush of your choice
  • Moisturised skin (wait 2 to 3 minutes after moisturiser)

How do you apply foundation with a rotating brush?

  1. Attach the foundation head until it clicks or sits firmly.
  2. Dot foundation on the forehead, both cheeks, nose and chin. Use about half the amount you normally would.
  3. Switch on before touching your face. Starting it on the skin can flick product.
  4. Glide lightly from the centre outwards. Slow sweeps across each cheek, then forehead, nose and chin. The head should just kiss the skin.
  5. Blend down the jaw onto the neck so there is no line.
  6. Switch off before lifting away.

Pressure tip: if the bristles splay flat or you feel tugging, you are pressing too hard. Hold the handle loosely, like a pen.

How do you apply powder with a rotating brush?

  1. Swap to the powder head.
  2. Dip lightly into loose or pressed powder and tap off the excess.
  3. Glide over the T-zone and anywhere you get shiny. Skip dry areas and under-eyes if you want a fresh finish.

How do you apply blush with a rotating brush?

  1. Swap to the blush head.
  2. Pick up a small amount of blush and tap off the excess.
  3. Smile, start on the apples of your cheeks, and glide upward towards your temples.
  4. Build slowly. Rotation spreads colour efficiently, so a little goes a long way.

What are the most common mistakes?

  • Pressing too hard: causes tugging and uneven coverage. Glide lightly.
  • Too much product: the brush spreads further than a sponge. Start with less.
  • Using the same head for everything: keep foundation, powder and blush heads separate for clean colour.
  • Washing the handle: only the heads are washable. Keep the motorised handle dry.

How do you clean a rotating makeup brush?

  1. Remove the head from the handle.
  2. Wash the bristles under lukewarm water with a drop of mild soap or brush cleanser.
  3. Gently squeeze (do not twist) until the water runs clear.
  4. Reshape the bristles and let the head air-dry fully, bristles facing down or sideways.
  5. Wipe the handle with a dry or barely damp cloth. Never put the handle under water.

Clean heads used with liquid foundation at least once a week.

When should you change the battery?

When the rotation slows noticeably or stops. An AAA battery lasts around 5 to 6 months of daily use in the Flaminglo brush.

FAQ

Should I put foundation on the brush or on my face? Either works. Dotting it on the face gives more control over placement; putting a small amount on the head is faster once you are used to it.

Can I use a rotating brush with a damp head? Keep the head dry for powder and blush. For foundation, a fully dry head gives the smoothest result.

Why is my foundation still patchy with a rotating brush? Usually the skin underneath: moisturiser not absorbed, dry flakes, or too much product. Fix the prep and use less foundation.

How long does it take to get used to? Most people get an even result on the first use. The only adjustment is using lighter pressure and less product than with a sponge.
